Giza Plateau: Key Information
The Giza Plateau is open from 06.00 – 16.00 every day in the winter. Plus the Plateau is open to 18.00 during summer months. Buy a general entry ticket and get access to the whole of the Giza Plateau. However, you will need to buy additional tickets if you what to visit Khufu Pyramid, Menkaure Pyramid, Mars Ankh Tomb and the Worker’s Village.

Giza Plateau: About Key Monuments
Pyramid of Khufu
Generally known as the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khufu is the largest of the pyramids at the Giza Plateau. Built in the 26th Century BC, the Pyramid of Khufu is the oldest pyramid in the Giza Plateau.
Pyramid of Khafre
Khafre was the son of Khufu. Easily identify the Pyramid of Khafre by looking at the top of the pyramid. Because this pyramid has retained a section of its original white outer casing stones at the very top.
Pyramid of Menkaur
The Pyramid of Menkaure is the smallest of the king’s pyramids at Giza. Pharaoh Menkaure became king after the death of his father, Khufu. Some think the pyramid was unfinished.
Queen’s Pyramids
The Queen’s Pyramids are the three smaller pyramids located on the north side of the king’s pyramids. These are the pyramids of Queen Hetepheres, Queen Meritites and Queen Henutsen.
Great Sphinx
The Sphinx was carved from stone along the causeway that connected the Pyramid of Khafre to its Valley Temple. The Sphinx measures 73 meters (240 feet) long and 20 meters (66 feet) high.
Workers Village
The workers village was only discovered in 1988. You will find it on the southeast side of the Giza Plateau. The bakeries and breweries built for the workers can still be seen today! It is quite amazing.
Giza Plateau: Inside The Pyramids
Entering the pyramids is definitely not for the faint hearted. Hand rails and lights have been installed to help ensure the safety of visitors. However, these are ancient monuments that were never intended to host visitors! Passage ways inside the pyramids are narrow and only just over 1m in height. Also, it is important to know that ventilation inside the pyramids is poor. This means that the air is hot and humid and stale.
It is important to know that photography is not allowed inside the pyramids. Plus, you should definitely wear suitable footwear. If you want to enter the pyramids you can buy tickets onsite on the day you visit. Plus you can buy tickets to enter the Giza pyramids online.
